The Wellness through dance programme has been set up in direct response of the government campaign for tackling loneliness. Studies have found that the UK is the loneliness country in Europe, and it is believed that there are 9 million lonely people, 4 million of these are older people.
Loneliness is being increasingly recognised as one of our most pressing health issues facing modern society. There is now research that shows loneliness is often linked to early deaths the same as we see in obesity and smoking. The risk doesn’t just end there, it has also been linked to an increase in Alzheimer’s, depression and cognitive decline and an increased risk of people suffering from coronary heart disease and strokes.
The Strictly Friendship programme is a social dance programme that offers not just dancing but also bringing people together in a fun social way. It is available for everyone of any age and physical ability.
At the moment we are concentration on the Chelmsford area but hope to expand across Essex.
