Uttlesford Badger Group was formed in March 1990 to encourage the study and protection of Badgers and their habitat within its boundaries. The group was originally known as the North West Essex Badger Protection Group but changed its name in 1992 to reflect the area of Essex covered by the group which mirrors that covered by Uttlesford District Council, hence the new name of the group. The group is a full member of the Badger Trust – formerly the National Federation of Badger Groups (NFBG), and is affiliated to the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV).
