Southend Mosque was established in 1976 by purchasing a 100-year-old church at 191-197 west road, Westcliff-on-Sea to change its use for a mosque in order to cater for growing Muslim community. It was the foundation of first Masjid in Southend East Essex. A charity Southend Islamic Trust was registered on 29 April 1976, Registration number 270870.
