Hamelin Trust offer a wide range of services to young adults and adults with learning disabilities and autism, plus their families and carers, across Essex. Our charity aims to support disabled people with as many aspects of their lives as possible, with our mission to build compassionate communities across the county.
Day Opportunities
From our site in Billericay we run community support services where people can meet new friends, learn skills to live independently and try new activities. Many of these activities are group sessions but we also offer one-to-one support and evening and weekend sessions.
Roots and Shoots is a horticultural training project in Rochford and provides opportunities for people to prepare for work and learn skills that can help at home. We focus on improving people’s physical and mental wellbeing in a beautiful farm setting. Roots and Shoots operates Monday – Friday.
Bfriends
Befriending, mentoring and peer support for people with learning disabilities or autism who have a good level of independence but require some support to overcome barriers in their lives. Bfriends will match you with a mentor or peer who can help you to access your hobbies, develop more friendships, learn specific skills and navigate your local community.
Bfriends is open to anyone over 18 that lives in the Braintree and Chelmsford districts. You do not need a formal diagnosis to join. Visit www.hamelintrust.org.uk/bfriends for more info or to make a referral. There is no cost to access Bfriends.
Residential (Respite) Breaks
Our farmhouse at Gowlands, Rochford, welcomes disabled people from all over Essex, Southend and Thurrock, who stay from anything from 1 night to 2 weeks+ at a time. We provide all elements of care that are needed whilst the person enjoys a holiday with us and their family get desperately needed respite from caring responsibilities.
During your time at Gowlands you’ll be able to enjoy activities on site as well as trips to local attractions.
Hydrotherapy Pool
Also on the Rochford site, our hydrotherapy pool gives people physiotherapy to manage long-term health conditions and overcome physical trauma. The Pool is free to use for anybody that pays for any other Hamelin service.
Residential / Supported Living
Our Bungalow at Wickford provides a forever home for 5 people that have profound and multiple disabilities.
