EXTRA is based in Jaywick and delivers support to families living within the Tendring District. EXTRA works, through a range of parenting courses, workshops and parent peer support groups, to achieve outcomes relating to parents/carers’ confidence, mental well-being, social isolation and relationships within their families.
EXTRA’s parenting courses are for parents/carers of children from pre-birth to 25 (where there are additional needs). They include those at a universal level (positive behaviour management courses) and targeted level courses which include support for parents of children with additional needs and solution focused courses on areas such as ‘Improving Your Emotional Wellbeing’ and ‘Building Confidence’.
EXTRA runs 6 parent peer support groups. In these groups, EXTRA’s skilled facilitators support the development of volunteers and attendees to support others within the groups and beyond.
EXTRA runs ‘informal’ workshops, such as Messy Play and ‘formal’ workshops covering topics such as ADHD and Building Resilience. In addition to the informal workshops, EXTRA attends outreach coffee mornings in schools and community centres providing craft activities. Both enable parents/carers to build up relationships with staff and find out about the formal support on offer whilst in a relaxed, fun setting.
EXTRA hosts a termly Parenting Platform – a multi-agency meeting of practitioners working with families in the area. Agencies share information on support they offer families and EXTRA circulates this to professionals and on our website.
