Essex Youthbuild offers construction and employability training to young people aged 11 to 19 (25 with educational needs) from across Essex. Our offering can be broken down as follows:
16-19 year olds – must be NEET (not in education, employment or training). Three days a week programme leading to City & Guilds’ qualifications in construction skills (bricklaying, carpentry and maintenance (painting, wall and floor tiling, guttering, plastering, plumbing), qualifications in functional skills (English and maths), health & safety qualification/CSCS card. Young people receive help and support applying for college, apprenticeships and work. Course length: 4-5 months. Join anytime as long as space available.
16-19 year olds (25 with special educational needs) – short course – 3 days’ health & safety course leading to the Level 1 Award in Health & Safety in a Construction Environment, together with training on the CITB Health, Safety & Environment Test, successful completion of both leading to a 5-year Labourer’s CSCS card.
14-16 year olds – Key Stage 4 at school (years 10 and 11). Young people can come to us through school, for one to two days to gain a vocational element to their curriculum and gain City & Guilds’ qualifications in construction skills (bricklaying, carpentry and maintenance (painting, wall and floor tiling, guttering, plastering, plumbing), along with help with applications for college, apprenticeships, etc.
11-16 year olds – Trade Club – a free, after-school activity running on Wednesday evenings 5.30pm to 7.30pm for young people to gain self confidence and self esteem by learning new skills (bricklaying, carpentry, tiling and painting) and making new friends.
