There are three core values at the heart of English for Women:
Connection:
Our aim is to prevent isolation particularly among women whose first language is not English, and provide a safe and friendly space, where they can receive a warm welcome and improve their language skills and find a warm welcome. A language barrier can be challenging, but a genuine smile is understood in all cultures.
Communication:
We are a language drop in centre rather than a structured English class. We offer conversational, topic-led teaching in small groups so women can find their voice, improve their literacy and language skills, and grow in confidence. Success to us is when we see our clients being able to access public facilities and to make connections with their local communities in their daily lives.
Culture:
Part of integration is being able to make sense of the culture we live in. It is not about expecting everybody to become the same, but about giving everyone the opportunity to join in and understand what we do here in the UK and why. We may talk about TV programs, the weather, bank holidays, British customs and manners, values and basic rights.
