Dementia Adventure believes that with the right support, people living with dementia can continue to do the things they have always enjoyed: get outdoors, remain active, keep connected to friends, family and their community and retain a sense of adventure in their lives.
Dementia Adventure is based in Essex but works nationally and provides a range of services – all with nature in mind:
- Fully supported dementia holidays and short breaks – Dementia Adventure specialises in designing and delivering, fully supported, small-group short breaks for people with dementia and their carers as an alternative to traditional ‘respite’. Our model enables the person with dementia and their partner, family member or friend to enjoy a holiday together with the support of trained volunteers.
- ‘Thinking differently about dementia’ events for family carers – providing strategies and tools to support unpaid family carers to look after somebody with dementia.
- Training – Often professionals are risk averse when it comes to enabling people with dementia to access the outdoors. Our team of qualified and experienced trainers deliver a range of training and bespoke support and help to organise outdoor activities such as dementia-friendly park walks.
- Research – Dementia Adventure contribute to research into the benefits of outdoor activity for people with dementia. For example, we led research published by Natural England – “Is it Nice Outside: consulting people with dementia and their carers about engaging with the natural environment.”
