Colchester Gateway is an independent local charity, providing social clubs, activities and support to adults with learning disabilities throughout North Essex.
The main aim of our Clubs and activities is for people to enjoy themselves in a relaxed atmosphere. We run weekly evening social clubs, plus two lunchtime clubs.  Activities at our clubs include disco, live music, art, craft, sewing, cooking, pool and table tennis. We also run a Ukulele Club where members can learn to play the ukulele – we provide the instruments.
Our Advocacy and Support Service provides a wide range of support to people with learning disabilities and their families.  The help we can provide includes support and advice to address financial issues including applying for benefits, attending benefit assessments and appeals, and debt advice; assisting with housing problems including homelessness and homelessness prevention; advocating for individuals at appointments including legal, health, benefits, and acting as Responsible Adult during Police interviews and court hearings.
We also run our in-house Roy Clarke Award Scheme.  Awards are available in four areas – Skills, Health, Safety, and Community.  Participants complete 5 sections – hobby, fitness, lifestyle, volunteering and a group or personal challenge.
We charge an entrance fee to our Clubs, and do not charge for our Advocacy and Support service.
We receive no statutory funding.
