We work with young people between 11 and 25, we are based on Canvey Island but are happy to work with young people from anywhere in Essex. All clubs and one to one support takes place at Yellow Door Youth Hub, Poplar Road, Canvey, SS8 7BN.
Counselling Service.
Free one-to-one counselling sessions for 11-25 year olds for a wide range of emotional and mental health issues including anxiety, depression, bereavement, self-harm, etc.
One to One Mentoring
Free One to one mentoring for young people 11 to 18 who are struggling with confidence, self-esteem, behaviour or social skills. It offers them one to one support once a week. Mentoring may involve a range of activities including talking, playing pool, playing games, doing sport or going for a walk. It aims to help these young people develop a trusting relationship and to develop life skills such as self-esteem, confidence, resilience and self-control and in doing so enable them to make positive decisions and take responsibility for themselves
Hope Box Course
Hope Box is a four-to-six-week course where young people identify problems and issues which make them feel anxious and worried. There are two courses for different ages 11 to 13 and 14 to 16. The course is informal and a range of activities are provided to help the young people find ways to reduce their stress. Group discussions, video clips, Apps, websites, arts and crafts are also used. At the end of the course everyone is provided with a small box to take home which has their own ideas to help them in the future.
Social Skills Group
Social Skills Group work with between three and four young people. This social skills support is aimed at building confidence in young people.  Helping them understand how to socially interact with other young people, this could be general social skills. For example, not interrupting; saying please and thank you; maintaining eye contact; helping them understand different types of conversations like ‘small talk’ and why sometimes this is necessary.It supports them to interact, feel less anxious about making new friends and talking to people
Sports Group
The sports group meets on a Monday from 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. and offers a wide range of sports and activities including rounders, table tennis, basketball and football. Its aim is to get young people active in a fun environment and supporting them to improve both their physical and mental health.
Performing Arts Group – Next Level.
This group is on a Monday for young people age 11 to 18. It helps them learn to sing, dance and act whilst they have fun and develop their confidence. The group have put on shows at venues for the local community including our elderly neighbours in supported housing.
Outreach at Waterside Skate Park
The Youth Work Team go to Waterside Skate Park, Canvey every week on a Tuesday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. They work with the young people there supporting positive relationships, promoting healthy eating, and offering advice and support on drugs, alcohol, and sexual health. This has continued during Lockdown.
LGBTQ Club
LGBT Club is for young people between 13 and 18. They meet on a Tuesday between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m.
Outreach in the Avenue
Every Wednesday between 3.30 p.m and 5.30 p.m. we provide sports and activities in the Avenues, Canvey. This allows the children and young people to literally step outside their front door and engage in sports and activities with their friends in a fun safe environment.
Young Volunteers
Young volunteers meet on a Wednesday between 5.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. They support the clubs and activities, organise fundraising events and community action.
QT Club Younger Group
`Quiet Club meeting on a Thursday between 5.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. It is for young people aged 11 to 18 who need support with meeting new people and finding new friends and who may find the ‘normal’ youth clubs too noisy or hard to navigate. Each week there is activities such cooking, sport, pool, PlayStation, football, basketball and arts and crafts. The aim of this club is to provide a sociable environment for young people to meet other young people and take part in activities that they may not have tried before.
Friday Youth Club
The youth club is on a Friday between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. for young people aged 11 to 18 and the aim is to provide a chill-out session. There are activities that the young people may want to do for example, play pool or play on the play station. The environment is less structured. Youth Workers are available during the session to offer advice and support on issues such as substance misuse and sexual health.
Yellow Door Drug and Alcohol Education Workshops.
Yellow Door delivers educational workshops on drugs, alcohol and gangs. These workshops deliver information to pupils that is factually accurate. Their emphasis is on truth and not fear arousal. The situations, language and images are appropriate for pupils’ maturity, understanding and knowledge and are up-to-date and relevant to the age group. We also run training days on issues surrounding substance misuse to professionals and the community.
Detached Work
Our youth workers and volunteers are also out and about in the Canvey Island area during the week working with young people on the streets throughout Canvey Island offering advice, support and information to young people.
