The Black Dog Theatre Creation was set up to experiment using theatre and performance techniques to support local people whom suffered from poor confidence, low self-esteem and/or mental health issues. The project ran for three years with an amazing degree of success.
With six successful projects and six wonderful productions under its belt, it has now branched away and developed is own identity. However, Alfie James Productions still remains a strong supporter of the project.
Inspired by the wonderful and brave Matthew Johnstone, author and animator of “The Black Dog,”
the group is tailored towards encouraging adults whom suffer from confidence issues, but is also open to all adults.
The Black Dog Theatre Creation runs a weekly theatre workshop in Colchester, Essex and Camden, London. There we play drama games, develop new and explore old performance skills and work towards a performance, which is staged once a year. Although our ultimate goal is to have as much fun as possible in a supportive atmosphere.
Our Core Aims:
– Develop / Build confidence and self esteem in a fun, supportive environment.
-To explore new and old theatre performance techniques.
– Work as a team, inspiring and supporting others.
-Produce at least one performance a year.
-Use theatre performance skills to raise awareness of mental health issues and to support positive social change.
